Event: Poetry Reading

Description: Three poets: Sue Burge, Chris Delaney and John Gohorry will each give a reading of their poems. There will also be an open mic.

Friday January 17th, 2020, 8.00pm
Event: Poetry Workshop
Location: St Michael’s Parish Centre, St Michael’s Street,  St Albans, AL3 4SL
Description: Brian Young will present an exercise or activity designed to get you writing new poetry. Bring pen and paper.

Friday February 21st, 2020, 8.00pm
Event: Michael King on Simon Armitage
Location: St Michael’s Parish Centre, St Michael’s Street,  St Albans, AL3 4SL
Description: Michael King will give a talk on Simon Armitage, the new Poet Laureate.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end.

Friday March 20th, 2020, 8.00pm
Event: Ten-Liners Results Evening
Location: St Michael’s Parish Centre, St Michael’s Street,  St Albans, AL3 4SL
Description: A chance to hear selected poems from our Ten-liners members’ competition and a reading from the judge, Jeri Onitskansky, winner of the 2019 Ver Open Competition.

Event: A History of Rhyme
Location: St Michael’s Parish Centre, St Michael’s Street,  St Albans, AL3 4SL
Description: Terry Jones will give a talk on the history of rhyme in English poetry from its origins to the present day.

Event: Members’ Evening
Location: St Michael’s Parish Centre, St Michael’s Street,  St Albans, AL3 4SL
Description: An evening celebrating the publishing successes of our members over the past year. Members who have recently published will be invited to read from their work.

Event: Open Competition Prize-giving

Description: Readings of the winning and selected poems from the Ver Poets Open Competition 2020, followed by a reading by this year’s judge Jacqueline Saphra.
